But don't despair, there is a hidden treasure - Shearings Alegria, a Dutch built ship, renovated and re-launched in 2011. She has 50 cabins, many of which are adapted for wheelchair bound passengers.
Grab rails, shower stools,
detachable shower heads, enough turning space for a wheelchair in the cabins,
wide corridors and two big lifts accessing all decks, for starters. There
are low-level service areas in the bar, library and restaurant and tables are
high enough for a wheelchair user to sit at in comfort. All kinds of mobility
aids are welcome – manual or electric chairs, scooters and walking frames. The
shore excursions have been specially adapted for the less mobile.
The ship has four decks, is classed as 3* and is described as comfortable and friendly on board There are 3 lifts and a stair lift which serve all decks, even the Sun Deck. There are a range of cabins for less mobile passengers to choose from too.
This year the Alegria will be offering cruises on the waterways of Holland and Belgium and with prices from as little as £999 per person for seven nights, this is value for money at its best
If you have limited mobility and would like more information about availability on Alegria please give me a call on 0800 408 6084 or email me at hannahw@cruise.co.uk
